The mission of the Public Service Department for the City of Conneaut, Ohio, is to provide our community with the highest quality public service that continually enhances the quality of life for all our citizens. This commitment will be accomplished through the proper utilization of all our allotted resources. We recognize that our employees are our most valued resources and are to be treated with respect and dignity. They are trained to respond safely, with excellence to any emergency that may develop. They are also trained concerning their responsibilities as public servants. We recognize that our mission is to work together with other city departments so that the overall mission of the city will be accomplished.
The Public Service Department is responsible for the largest area in Ashtabula County - 27 square miles. We have over 105 road miles with 550 lane miles. A partial list of The Public Service Department's responsibilities is as follows: build, pave, and maintain all city roads, 22 miles of gravel roads, 44 miles of ditches, snow and ice removal, department vehicle and equipment maintenance, storm sewer cleaning and maintenance, emergency tree pruning and removal, six city cemeteries, seven city parks, street and traffic light maintenance, the compost site facility, all city right-of-ways, improper condition reports, road cut permits, assist other departments as needed and mow weed ordinance violations.
